Fitting it safely

Switch off at the MCB, not just the wall switch, before changing a lamp holder. A wrongly wired switch can leave the holder live even when the switch is off.

  • Use a line tester to confirm the point is dead.
  • Tighten both terminals firmly; a loose terminal causes heat and blackening.
  • Keep the cord grip engaged on pendant holders so the wires do not carry the lamp’s weight.
