Modular Switch Plate Size Calculator

Every KEMPS and VIZA modular plate range is made in the same nine sizes: 1M, 2M, 3M, 4M, 6M, 8M (in two shapes), 12M and 18M. Where a design-only size fits better (16M in Cherry, Aqua Cherry and Teyoma; 10M in V-Wood), the calculator says so.

A module (M) is one standard slot, about 22.5 mm wide. Most switches take one module. Sockets rated 6/16 A, 13 A and 16 A, the 32 A DP switch, and some 20 A switches take two.

What does 1M, 2M or 8M mean on a switch plate?

M stands for module, one standard slot on the plate. A 1-way switch takes one module; a 16 A socket takes two. An 8M plate holds eight modules in total, in any mix: eight 1M switches, four 2M sockets, or anything in between.

What sizes do Vinayak modular plates come in?

Nine sizes, the same for every KEMPS and VIZA plate range: 1M and 2M (100 x 95 mm), 3M (125 x 95 mm), 4M (150 x 95 mm), 6M (225 x 95 mm), 8M horizontal (260 x 95 mm), 8M square (160 x 150 mm), 12M (225 x 160 mm) and 18M (225 x 230 mm). A few VIZA designs add more: 16M (260 x 190 mm) in Cherry, Aqua Cherry and Teyoma, and 10M in V-Wood.

What is the difference between 8M horizontal and 8M square?

Both hold eight modules. The 8M horizontal plate is one long row, 260 mm wide. The 8M square plate is two rows of four, 160 x 150 mm, for walls where there is not enough width. Choose by the space on the wall and the back box fitted.

What if my switchboard needs more than 18 modules?

18M is the largest plate, so a bigger board is split across two or more plates. The calculator does the split for you, keeping each 2-module socket whole on one plate.

Should I leave spare slots?

If a switch or socket may be added later, a plate with one or two spare modules saves changing the plate. Spare slots are closed with blank modules.
