What “made in India” should mean on an electrical product
A made in India electrical product is one that was manufactured in a factory in India, by a maker whose name and address you can read on the pack, rather than made abroad and sold here under an Indian-sounding brand. For switches, sockets, MCBs and lights, that difference decides who you call when a module fails in year six.
The phrase is also the name of the government’s Make in India programme, a general push to grow manufacturing in the country. This article is not about that scheme and claims no link to it. It uses the words in their plain sense: where the thing in your hand was made.
We have made electrical products in Mumbai since 1995, at our works in Marol, Andheri East, under three brands: KEMPS, VIZA and VIYONA. Below: how to check any product’s origin and certification yourself, then a category-by-category tour of what we make, with codes and printed MRPs from our current catalogue.
How to tell an electrical product is made in India
You can tell an electrical product is made in India by reading the pack, not the logo: look for the words “Manufactured by” followed by a full Indian factory address, a printed MRP, and a certification number, and treat “Marketed by”, a missing address or a stated foreign country of origin as a sign it was made somewhere else.
Packaged goods sold in India are generally required to show the maker or packer’s name and address, the MRP and, for imported goods, the country of origin. Those three lines do most of the work. A flag on the front of a box proves nothing.

Bars are equal because this is a checklist in order, not a measurement. Steps 1 and 3 settle most cases.
A “Marketed by” line is not a problem in itself. It means the seller is not the maker, so ask who the maker is and where the factory is before you rely on the product being Indian-made.

Is it certified? The ISI mark and the CM/L number
An electrical product is certified in India when it carries the ISI mark with a CM/L licence number, or for products such as LED lamps a BIS registration number beginning with R-, and that number checks out on the Bureau of Indian Standards database against the same product, the same Indian Standard and the same maker.
A logo can be printed by anyone; the number is what you verify. Our guide to spotting a fake ISI mark on electrical products walks through the lookup step by step. Certification and origin are separate questions: BIS also licenses factories outside India, so an ISI mark tells you a product was made to an Indian Standard, not that it was made in India.

An ISI logo with no CM/L number anywhere on the product or the carton is not a genuine certification. Neither is wording such as “ISI type” or “ISI standard”.

What made in India means for you as a buyer
For a buyer, made in India means practical things: spare modules and matching plates you can still get years later, an MRP printed on the pack that no one can quietly raise, a warranty claim handled by a maker you can reach, and replacement parts that arrive from a dealer’s shelf rather than a shipment.
Spares matter most on a modular board, because the plate is the part you commit to. When one switch fails, you replace one module, not the board. Our plates are built to fit all major modular switch systems, carry a 5-year warranty and are UV-protected, so they do not turn yellow. Small parts stay cheap to replace: a KEMPS K218 blank plate is ₹24 and a VIZA V284 1M blank is ₹20.

The MRP is the maximum retail price. Dealers often sell below it, so use it as a ceiling when you budget, as our modular switch board price guide does.
Before you buy, photograph the pack: manufacturer line, MRP and licence number. If a module ever needs replacing, that photo tells the dealer exactly which range and code to match.

Made in India modular switches: what we make in Mumbai
We make more than 2000 products, all in-house at our Mumbai works in Marol, Andheri East, where we have manufactured since 1995. Nothing is outsourced, and there is no other plant. Our quality system is certified to ISO 9001:2015, and the process from raw material to final inspection is set out in how we check quality at every stage.
The three brands split the work. KEMPS is our modular range with the premium plate designs. VIZA is the broader modular range, with the widest choice of plates and a matt black and grey series. VIYONA covers the everyday non-modular switches and sockets, plus MCBs, distribution boards, lamp holders, bells, spike guards and LED lighting.

Bar length is the printed MRP, drawn to scale against the highest (₹74). The switches differ in type and rating, so this shows the spread of entry prices, not a like-for-like comparison.
For lights and fans a 6A or 10AX switch is the correct choice. Paying for a 20A switch on a light circuit buys nothing.
KEMPS: modular switches, sockets and regulators
KEMPS switches come in white and grey across four switch designs: Peony, Daisy, Orchid and Vinca, plus the 2M Aster range. The KEMPS Peony K101 10AX 1 way switch is ₹65 in white and ₹70 as the grey K501. A 32AX double-pole switch with indicator (K116), the kind typically fitted for a geyser or an AC, is ₹360.

Sockets and controls follow the same codes. The K193 6A and 16AX universal socket with shutter is ₹205, the K191 6A 3 pin socket ₹95, and the K207 USB charger socket ₹750. The K213 four-step fan regulator is ₹405 and the K214 five-step ₹450. The range even includes its own modular MCBs: the K225 single-pole at ₹295 and the K226 double-pole at ₹625.

Where children live, choose a shuttered socket. The shutter keeps the live contacts covered until a plug pushes it open.
VIZA modular switches and the plate range
VIZA is our broadest modular range. The V101 10A piano switch is ₹56, the V121 20A 1 way ₹89 and the V225 32A double-pole switch with indicator ₹295. The VIZA V262 6A 2 pin socket with shutter is ₹78, the V263 16A socket on a porcelain base ₹160, and the V270 6 and 16A universal socket ₹130.

The V266 2 in 1 five pin socket (₹75) is a 6A socket, not for a 16A plug: a geyser or AC needs a 16A socket, as our 6A vs 16A socket guide explains.
Never force a 16A plug into a 2 in 1 five pin socket. The socket is rated 6A, and a heavy appliance on it overheats the contacts.

VIYONA: everyday switches, holders, bells and spike guards
VIYONA is the range most homes meet first, in the non-modular board of a rented flat or a utility area. The VIYONA 101 Deluxe 1 way switch is ₹22 and the 119 6A 3 pin socket ₹40. The VIYONA 151 and 152 switches, printed with the ISI mark in our catalogue, are ₹74 and ₹90, and the 153 6 and 16A universal socket with shutter is ₹90.

Around the board sit the small parts that get replaced most often. The 201 angle holder is ₹26 and the 203 two-part ceiling rose ₹28. Door bells run from the 234 Boss ding dong at ₹195 to the 240 musical aarti tune bell at ₹310. The 291 spike guard with 1.5 metres of cord is ₹370, and the 301 with two USB ports ₹650. A 198 line tester is ₹36.

A spike guard spreads one socket across several plugs; it does not add capacity. Keep heaters, irons and geysers on their own wall sockets.
MCBs, isolators and distribution boards
Our VIYONA MCBs are rated for a 10 kA breaking capacity and marked to IS/IEC 60898-1 with licence CM/L-2544151. The 401 single-pole MCB from 6 to 32A is ₹145 and the 411 double-pole ₹350; the 10 kA VIYONA MCB page lists the full set. A 40A double-pole isolator, code 442, is ₹230.

Bar length is the printed MRP, to scale against the highest (₹1,035). Most homes need single and double-pole MCBs; 3 and 4 pole units are for three-phase supplies.
The boards follow: the 371 two to four way SPN MCB box is ₹380, the 381 four-way double-door board ₹750 and the 386 sixteen-way ₹1,410. Which rating goes on which circuit is covered in which MCB for a home.

An MCB rated higher than the wire it protects will let that wire overheat before it trips. Match the MCB to the cable, not to the appliance.
LED lights made in Mumbai
Our LED range covers lamps, down lights, panels, tube fittings, street and flood lights. The 1061 0.5W night lamp is ₹40, the 1065 9W LED lamp ₹70 and the 1010 3W down light ₹100. The 1025 15W slim panel is ₹400, and the 1041 panel driver for 9 to 15W panels ₹180.

The lamps are marked to IS 16102 with registration R-71026514, and the down lights and panels to IS 10322 with R-71026476. The driver label shown in our catalogue reads “Made in India”. That is the pattern to look for on any LED product: a standard, a registration number and a maker’s line on the product itself.
LED lamps and drivers fall under BIS registration rather than the ISI licence, so the number starts with R- instead of CM/L. Both can be looked up on the BIS site.

Indian modular switch brands: questions to ask before you buy
When comparing Indian modular switch brands, ask each one the same five questions: who manufactures it and where, what the CM/L or registration number is, whether modules and plates will still be available in five years, what the printed MRP is, and whether a dealer near you stocks the range deep enough to supply spares.
