Pick the switch type
Start with what the switch has to do. 1-way turns a light or fan on and off from one place. 2-way works in pairs, so a stair or corridor light can be switched from both ends. Bell push springs back when released, for a door bell. A DP switch breaks both wires and suits heavy fixed appliances. Match the rating to the load
The rating is the most current the switch is built to carry safely. Lights, fans and small electronics sit on a 6A or 10AX switch. Heavy loads such as the geyser, air conditioner, microwave and iron need a 16A or higher-rated switch. Heavy load, higher rating 6A on a geyser
