This one does. We make switches ourselves in Mumbai under KEMPS and VIZA, so we have listed ten brands on a stated, checkable basis, in alphabetical order, with the owner, headquarters, start date and range names for each, taken from their own sites. We have not ranked them. We have included ourselves, because we meet the same basis, and we say plainly where we are smaller.

Ten switch brands sold nationally in India through electrical dealers, each under its own named modular ranges, are, in alphabetical order: Anchor by Panasonic, GM Modular, Goldmedal, GreatWhite, Havells, Legrand, Polycab, Schneider Electric, Vinayak Electricals (KEMPS, VIZA) and Wipro North-West — listed alphabetically, not ranked by quality or size.
That is the whole answer to the top 10 switch brands in India, and the rest of this page is who makes what. We are on the list because we meet the same basis as everyone else on it, not because we are the same size — we are not.

How we chose the ten, and why they are not ranked
The basis is checkable in an afternoon: a company must sell switches and sockets under its own brand, name its modular ranges on its own website, and sell through electrical dealers across India rather than in one city. Fifteen names came close. Ten pass cleanly on public information.

How old is each switch brand?
The ten companies range from Schneider Electric, whose history starts with a French foundry in 1836, to GreatWhite, which started selling switches in 2012; most Indian-owned names on the list began as family businesses between the 1950s and the 2000s, and we started making switches in 1995 in a single workshop in Mumbai.
Years since each company’s stated start, to 2026
Bar length is years since the start date each company or its Wikipedia entry gives, scaled to Schneider Electric’s 190. Legrand counts from its 1865 origins in Limoges; GreatWhite from its 2012 switch launch. Wipro North-West is left off: we found no verified founding year.
Age is not quality A long history tells you a company has survived, not what is inside this year’s switch. Acquired brands Anchor (bought by Panasonic in 2007), North-West (by Wipro in 2006) and Crabtree (by Havells) all kept their names after changing hands.
The list says who sells switches nationally, not who is best.
An IS 3854 CM/L number on the product, verified on the BIS database, beats any brand name.
Replacement modules are bought by range, so note it before the old board comes off the wall.
The manufacturer’s address on the pack tells you where the switch was actually made.
Anchor by Panasonic, GM Modular and Goldmedal
Anchor by Panasonic Est. 1963 Mumbai Started as Anchor Electricals and is now Panasonic Life Solutions India, a wholly owned subsidiary of Panasonic Corporation of Japan, which bought it in 2007. Switch ranges on its site include Roma Ziva Penta Woods, with Penta spanning non-modular and modular designs. It also sells wires, switchgear, lighting and fans.
GM Modular Est. 2002 Andheri, Mumbai Founded in 2002 by its own account, and says it launched a modular switch line in 2004. Alongside switches it sells home automation, LED lighting, fans, wires and cables, and MCBs and distribution boards.
Goldmedal Est. 1979 Mumbai Set up in 1979 in Vijayawada by Otmalji Goraji, now headquartered in Mumbai. Its site names G-Magic, launched in 2001, and the Curve modular range from 2011, alongside wires, LED lighting, MCBs and PVC pipes.
Four of the other nine name Mumbai as their headquarters — Anchor, GM Modular, Goldmedal and Polycab — and so do we. That says more about where India’s switch trade grew up than about any one brand.
GreatWhite, Havells (with Crabtree) and Legrand
GreatWhite Switches since 2012 GreatWhite Global Pvt. Ltd. says it started with switches in 2012 and has factories at Valsad and Haridwar. Its site lists Arcus Myrah Trivo Fiana, and it also sells wires, LED lighting, fans and switchgear.
Havells Est. 1958 Noida NSE: HAVELLS Founded in 1958 by Qimat Rai Gupta, listed on the NSE and BSE, and the owner of Crabtree, Lloyd and Reo. Its switch pages list Apogee Athena Signia Magnus Adiva YU, several under the Crabtree name, plus Havells’ own Coral range.
Legrand Limoges, France Euronext: LR A French group tracing its origins to 1865, which bought the Indian company MDS in 1996. Legrand India lists Arteor Myrius Lyncus Mylinc Allzy and Living Now.
Naming a range matters when you buy a replacement. “Havells” or “Legrand” is not enough at the counter; the range name decides whether a module fits the plate on your wall.
Polycab, Schneider Electric, Vinayak Electricals and Wipro
Polycab Est. 1964 Mumbai Listed 2019 Best known for wires and cables; listed on the NSE and BSE in April 2019. Its modular switch ranges are Levana and Etira.
Schneider Electric Est. 1836 Rueil-Malmaison, France Listed on Euronext Paris. In India its switch ranges include AvatarON Livia Opale Unica Pure ZENcelo. In 2020 it took over L&T’s electrical and automation business, renamed Lauritz Knudsen in 2024.
Vinayak Electricals Est. 1995 Marol, Mumbai Us. We make the KEMPS and VIZA modular ranges and the VIYONA conventional series at our one works in Marol, Andheri East. Switches carry IS 3854 CM/L-7567794. More in switch manufacturers in Mumbai.
Wipro North-West Bengaluru Wipro Consumer Care & Lighting, part of Wipro Enterprises, bought North-West in 2006. Ranges on its site include Artisa Celestia Stylus+ Convex Nowa Venia.
Wipro Enterprises, which owns North-West, is a separate company from the listed Wipro Limited IT business.
Which switch brand is best for home in India?
No single switch brand is best for every home in India: the right one is whichever brand’s switch in front of you carries a verifiable IS 3854 licence number on the product, uses silver-alloy contacts, has the rating the load needs, fits your plate, comes with a written warranty and is stocked by a dealer near you.

What is the difference between modular and conventional switches?
A modular switch is a separate unit, one or two modules wide, that clips into a frame behind a cover plate, so each switch or socket can be changed alone; a conventional switch is fixed to its own plate or board, the older piano-type pattern, and replacing one usually means opening the whole board.

Modular buys you a finish change without rewiring and a spare slot for later. Modular does not buy you quality on its own — that is the contact and the licence.

Which socket rating does a home need?
A home needs 6A sockets for phone chargers, lamps, televisions and other small appliances, and 16A sockets for geysers, irons, microwaves and other heavy plugs, with a universal socket where one point must take both plug sizes, so decide the rating at each point before you compare one brand’s price with another’s.
