Glass Modular Plates: What Is Really Glass, and What It Costs

What “glass modular plates” means in our range

Glass modular plates are cover plates with a flat, deep, high-gloss face that looks like a sheet of glass laid over the switch board. The plate is the front frame that sits over the switch modules. It carries no current, so its face can take finishes that a switch body cannot.

In our catalogue three designs give that look: KEMPS Peony, VIZA Glasso and VIZA Cristal. This guide covers those three only: what each one is made of, as far as our catalogue states it; what each costs at every size from 1M to 18M; which rooms suit a glossy face; and how to keep a dark one clean. Are glass modular plates made of real glass?

Our glass modular plates are not sold as real glass: our catalogue describes none of our designs as tempered or toughened glass, so we call Peony and Glasso “glass-style”, and Cristal is an acrylic plate, made in acrylic and polycarbonate, that gives a similar deep gloss at a lower price.

Peony: glass-style Our KEMPS catalogue page for Peony is written around the look of glass, with lines such as “the power of glass” and “transparent elegance”. It does not name the plate’s material. See the KEMPS Peony modular plates.

Glasso: glass-style The VIZA Glasso price list gives the name, the codes and two price lines, white and silver. It does not state a material either, so we describe Glasso by its look, not as glass. See the VIZA Glasso modular plates.

Cristal: acrylic The one design whose material is printed. The catalogue heading reads “Cristal acrylic plate”, and the plate is made in acrylic and polycarbonate. See the VIZA Cristal acrylic plates.

Tempered glass Not claimed for any of our plates. If a specification calls for a real glass front, ask us before you order rather than assume.

Glass modular plate price: KEMPS Peony, 1M to 18M

A glass modular plate from us costs ₹254 * to ₹361 * for a 1M plate and ₹1,090 * to ₹1,498 * for an 18M plate, depending on the design and, for Glasso, the colour line. Peony sits near the top of that band.

K381 to K389 All colour price KEMPS prices Peony at one “all colour” rate, so Peony Z Black, Pearl White, Sky Blue and Bronze Copper cost the same at each size.

Spare module, same price The 1M and 2M Peony plates are both ₹350 *, and the catalogue draws both as the same 100 mm wide plate. The 2M leaves room for one more module later.

8M layout K386 or K387 The two 8M plates differ by ₹10 *: horizontal is ₹810 *, square is ₹820 *. Order the layout your back box takes.

Glass modular plate price: VIZA Glasso, white and silver

Glasso is the most expensive of the three at most sizes, from ₹335 * for a 1M plate in the white line to ₹1,498 * for an 18M plate in the silver line. The catalogue gives every size two prices.

V1181 to V1189 White line ₹335 * at 1M to ₹1,361 * at 18M. Silver line ₹361 * at 1M to ₹1,498 * at 18M, roughly 8 to 16% above white depending on size.

Cristal acrylic plate price, 1M to 18M

Cristal is the lowest-priced way to get the gloss look in our range, from ₹254 * for a 1M plate to ₹1,090 * for an 18M plate, at one “all colour” price per size.

Glass plate modular switch: the plate and the switches are separate

A “glass plate modular switch” is an ordinary modular switch behind a glass-look front plate. The plate gives the finish; the module behind it gives the rating. You choose them separately, and you can change the plate later without touching the switch.

10AX For lights and fans, a 6A or 10AX switch is the right choice. Our KEMPS Peony switches start with the Peony K101 10AX one-way switch at ₹65 *, and the K102 10AX two-way switch at ₹105 *.

20AX Heavier loads take a 20AX module, such as the Peony K106 20AX one-way switch at ₹107 *. 16AX socket The KEMPS K193 6A and 16AX socket is ₹205 * and takes two modules.

Fits major systems Same module count Our plates are compatible with all major modular switch systems, so a glass-style plate can go over switches you already have, provided the module count matches.

Glass modular switch board: what a full board costs

On a glass modular switch board the plate is usually the largest single cost. Take a small 4-module board with two light switches and one socket, priced from our catalogue at MRP.

2 x K101 Two 10AX one-way switches, ₹130 *. 1 x K193 One 6A and 16AX socket, ₹205 *. Modules together: ₹335 *.

Peony K384 Add a 4M Peony plate at ₹505 * and the board comes to ₹840 *. Orchid K304 The same modules under a white KEMPS Orchid 4M plate at ₹160 * come to ₹495 *.

Do glass-style plates show fingerprints?

Yes, a flat high-gloss face shows fingerprints, smudges and dust more than any other plate finish, and dark shades such as Peony Z Black, Cristal Z Black and Glasso Zed Black show them most, because an oily thumbprint reads as a grey patch on a black, mirror-like surface under room light.

Z Black on a busy board A black glass-style plate by the front door or a kitchen counter soon looks smudged again after cleaning.

Pearl White A pale shade in the same design gives the same gloss and hides marks far better; Peony Pearl White is the easy choice.

Metallic black If the wall needs a dark board that is used all day, Orchid Z Black Metallic is dark without the mirror face.

Light direction A plate facing a window shows more marks than one in a corridor, because light rakes across the face.

How do you clean a glass modular plate?

Switch the circuit off, wipe the plate with a soft microfibre cloth that is dry or barely damp with plain water or a drop of mild soap, then buff it dry; never spray liquid onto the plate, and never use solvents, abrasive pads or an ammonia or alcohol glass cleaner on it.

Microfibre Light pressure, then a dry buff for a streak-free face. Mild soap Enough for kitchen grease; wring the cloth until it barely feels damp.

Glass cleaner The name misleads: ammonia and alcohol can cloud an acrylic face such as Cristal. Acetone and thinners They can craze acrylic and strip a coloured finish for good.

Grit in the cloth Rinse the cloth often; a gritty cloth scratches a gloss face like sandpaper.

Which rooms suit a glass modular plate?

A glass modular plate suits rooms where the board is on show and touched mostly by clean hands, such as the living room, the main bedroom, a reception wall or a home office, while kitchens, children’s rooms and busy corridors are better served by metallic, texture or white plates that hide marks.

Plate fit, sizes and the 5-year warranty

All three glass-look designs come in the same nine sizes, from 1M to 18M, including 8M in both horizontal and square layouts. None of the three is listed in a 16M size.

95 mm tall The Peony and Cristal plates from 1M to 6M are drawn 95 mm tall, with widths growing from 100 mm (1M and 2M) to 225 mm (6M). 8M horizontal or square Match the back box, not the switch count.

Fits major systems Our plates are compatible with all major modular switch systems. 5-year warranty Every plate carries a 5-year warranty. UV-protected Our plates are UV-protected and do not turn yellow, which matters most on a pale gloss face in a sunny room.

How to choose and order a glass-style plate

Settle the size first, then the design, then the colour. Doing it in that order stops the most common mistake: a plate chosen by look that does not fit the box already in the wall.

1. Count modules Switches, sockets and any regulator, rounded up to a plate size.

2. Pick by budget Cristal from ₹254 *, Peony from ₹350 *, Glasso from ₹335 * at 1M.

3. Pick the shade Pale for busy boards, dark for show walls.

4. Confirm the price line For Glasso, check the white or silver line with your dealer.

5. Order by code Give the dealer the code, such as K385 or V475, not just “6M glass plate”.
