Which is the best electrical accessories brand in India?

The best electrical accessories brand in India is the one whose holder, plug, bell or spike guard carries the right ISI licence where a standard applies, has firm contacts and a heat-resistant body, and prints its MRP, and national names such as Anchor by Panasonic, Havells, Orient Electric and Polycab all sell them, as do makers like us.

We are a Mumbai manufacturer of these small fittings, so we are not going to rank our competitors. A maker scoring its rivals is advertising with a table attached. What we can do is list who sells accessories nationally, on a basis you can check yourself, and set out the checks we would make across the counter before paying for a lamp holder or a multi plug.

Which brands sell electrical accessories nationally in India?

Seven national brands list at least three of the everyday accessory types (lamp holders, ceiling roses, door bells, plug tops, multi plugs or adaptors, spike guards or extension boards, flex boxes, night lamps, regulators and indicators) on their own Indian websites, and in alphabetical order they are Anchor by Panasonic, GM Modular, Goldmedal, Great White, Havells, Orient Electric and Polycab.

Anchor by Panasonic Owned by Panasonic since 2007, based in Mumbai. Lists spike guards, plug tops, multiplug adaptors, lamp holders, doorbells and ceiling roses.

GM Modular A Mumbai private company. Lists door bells, night lamps, spike guards, regulators and LED indicators.

Goldmedal Founded in 1979, based in Mumbai. Lists spike guards, flex boxes, adaptors, an LED night lamp and doorbells.

Great White Registered in Mumbai. Its Petra range covers universal adaptors, spike guards, extension cords and doorbells.

Havells Founded in 1958, based in Noida, listed on the BSE and NSE. Lists adaptors, doorbells, extensions, lamp holders and ceiling roses, and plug tops.

Orient Electric Part of the CK Birla Group, based in New Delhi. Lists lamp holders, ceiling roses, plug tops, multi plugs, extension boards and door bells.

Polycab Founded in 1964, based in Mumbai. Lists plug tops, multiplugs, spike guards, flex boxes, lamp holders, doorbells and ceiling roses.

The basis is what each brand shows on its own site in September 2026: not a ranking, not a census. Syska lists extension boards but not the other types, so it falls outside it.

What counts as an electrical accessory?

In the Indian trade an electrical accessory is one of the small fittings around the switch board and the ceiling point, such as a lamp holder, ceiling rose, door bell, plug top, multi plug, spike guard, flex box, night lamp, fan regulator or indicator, as opposed to the wire, the MCB or the light itself.

Grouped by job: Light batten, angle and pendant holders with the ceiling rose a pendant hangs from. Power plug tops, multi plugs, adaptors, spike guards and flex boxes. Signal door bells and indicators. Control fan regulators and dimmers. Comfort the night lamp in a passage or a child’s room.

Each one is cheap, which is why they get bought in a hurry. Yet a holder sits inches from a hot lamp for years, and a multi plug carries whatever someone decides to push into it. Cheap is not the same as unimportant.

Which electrical accessories need an ISI mark by law?

Switches to IS 3854, plugs and socket-outlets up to 250 V and 16 A to IS 1293, and bayonet lamp holders to IS 1258 are all under compulsory BIS certification in India, so for those three the ISI mark with a licence number is a legal requirement, not a sales feature.

IS 3854 Switches, compulsory since the 2003 Quality Control Order. IS 1293 Plugs and socket-outlets, compulsory from 1 December 2020 under an order DPIIT notified in December 2019. IS 1258 Bayonet lamp holders, added by the Electrical Accessories (Quality Control) Order, 2023, published on 1 January 2024 and phased in from July 2024 for larger makers to January 2025 for micro enterprises. The same order covers IS 14772 boxes and enclosures and IS 7809 insulating adhesive tape.

For door bells, regulators and night lamps, ask which standard the maker works to rather than assume.

What do the contacts inside a holder or plug tell you?

The contacts tell you most of what matters, because a holder, plug top or multi plug fails where metal meets metal, and firm, well-formed contacts with screw terminals that clamp the wire properly are what keep that joint cool for years, whatever the logo on the body says.

At the counter: Brass contacts and pins are what electricians look for. Plated or thin contacts are worth a question. Spring that snaps back in a lamp holder keeps the cap pressed home. Loose grip on a plug in a socket is where heating starts.

Open the terminal screws before you buy a dozen. Screws that bite and a clamp that holds the full conductor are a good sign. Blackening round a pin on an old plug means the joint has been running hot; replace it, do not clean it.

Does a heat-resistant body matter on a lamp holder?

Yes, because a lamp holder spends its life next to a hot lamp and a ceiling rose next to hot air trapped at the ceiling, so a body that keeps its shape and does not discolour or soften with heat is what keeps the contacts aligned and the live parts covered.

What to feel for: Rigid body, no flex when you squeeze it. Skirt covers the contacts while a lamp is being changed. Discoloured or brittle on an older fitting means it has been cooking. Cracked shell means replace it today.

Which lamp holder should you buy for each point?

Buy a batten holder where the lamp sits flat on a ceiling or wall, an angle holder where it must tilt out from a wall, and a pendant holder with a ceiling rose where it hangs on flex, then choose a skirt body wherever someone will change lamps often, since the skirt covers the contacts.

What should you check on a spike guard or flex box?

Check that the spike guard or flex box has a switch and a fuse or cut-out you can see, sockets with shutters, a cord long enough to reach without a second extension, and a stated rating you will stay inside, because these strips are for light electronics and chargers, not for heaters, irons or ACs.

Shutters on the sockets keep fingers and hairpins out of live contacts. Cord that reaches beats joining two strips. Daisy-chaining strips and Heater or iron on a strip are the two habits we would stop first.

Are multi plugs and travel adaptors safe to use?

A multi plug or adaptor is safe for light loads when its plug and sockets are made to IS 1293, it grips firmly, and you keep the total load within the rating of the wall socket, but it becomes a hazard the moment it is used to run a heater, an iron or several heavy appliances from one point.

6A and 16A are the ratings to read on the body. Firm grip in the wall socket matters as much as the rating. Adaptor on an adaptor is how sockets overheat.

Note the gap in the standard: when BIS clarified IS 1293 in 2021 it said universal and multi-standard sockets were not covered, and that the whole cord extension set would need a separate standard, then under preparation. On those, ask which standard the maker claims.

What about door bells, night lamps, regulators and indicators?

Door bells, night lamps, fan regulators and indicators are the accessories people choose by look, yet each has one practical check: a bell needs a momentary bell push, a night lamp should draw well under a watt, a regulator must suit the fan, and an indicator should sit on the circuit it reports.

Indicator a small lamp that shows a circuit is live, useful for a geyser or a pump. Check it is fitted on the right circuit before trusting it.

How do you choose electrical accessories for a new home?

Choose them by making a list of every point first, then buying licensed items where a standard applies, checking the contacts, body and shutters in the hand, reading the rating against the load, and buying the whole list from one dealer who can replace any item quickly, whatever brand he stocks.
