LED Tube Fittings Made in Mumbai: 6W to T8 40W

LED Tube Light Manufacturer: T5, T8 and 6W Fittings, MRP
We are an LED tube light manufacturer in Mumbai making four VIYONA LED tube fittings: 6W (₹160), T5 12W (₹180), T5 20W (₹200) and T8 40W (₹600) MRP. Below: what T5 and T8 mean, how to change over from an old fluorescent fitting, units on shop and office hours, and what a full box costs.

Key takeaways

  • Four LED tube fittings: 6W ₹160 (1051), T5 12W ₹180 (1058), T5 20W ₹200 (1059), T8 40W ₹600 (1060).
  • Our 6W and T5 fittings are integrated: no separate tube, choke or starter; connect phase and neutral and switch on.
  • T5 is about 16 mm, slim, for homes and offices; T8 is about 26 mm, for shops and halls.

What we make: LED tube fittings from 6W to 40W

We are an LED tube light manufacturer in Mumbai, and our VIYONA range has four LED tube fittings: a compact 6W fitting, a T5 fitting in 12W and 20W, and a T8 fitting at 40W, the last three with PVC bodies. The 6W and T5 fittings are integrated, which means the LEDs, the driver and the body are one unit: there is no separate tube to slide in, no choke and no starter. You fix the fitting to the wall or ceiling, connect phase and neutral, and switch on.

The printed MRPs run from ₹160 for the 6W to ₹600 for the T8 40W. This page is for buyers who already know they want a tube fitting and need the range, the difference between T5 and T8, how to change over from an old fluorescent fitting, what a box costs, and what the fittings use on a shop’s or office’s hours.

If you are still deciding which tube suits a room at home, our home tube light guide covers that question room by room; we do not repeat it here.

Our tube fittings and MRPs

Four codes, with the box quantity printed beside each:

VIYONA LED tube fitting MRP

T8 40W PVC (1060)₹600
T5 20W PVC (1059)₹200
T5 12W PVC (1058)₹180
6W fitting (1051)₹160

Printed MRPs from our current catalogue. Bars to scale.

The step that stands out is between the T5 fittings and the T8: the T5 20W (1059): ₹200 costs only ₹20 more than the T5 12W (1058): ₹180, while the T8 40W (1060): ₹600 is three times the 20W for twice the watts. The 6W (1051) and the T5 12W are packed 10 per box; the T5 20W and the T8 40W are packed 40 per box.

T5 or T8: what the letters mean

The T number is the tube’s diameter in eighths of an inch. A T5 is 5/8 inch, about 16 mm; a T8 is 1 inch, about 26 mm. In the fluorescent era that mattered because the tube and the holder had to match. In an integrated LED fitting the letter now mostly describes the size and shape of the body.

  • T5 fittings are slim battens that sit close to the wall, the usual choice in homes, kitchens, offices and above shelves. Ours come in 12W and 20W.
  • T8 fittings are larger, for long hours and big floors: shops, offices, classrooms, workshops and halls. Ours is 40W.
  • The 6W fitting is the short one, for a wardrobe, a cabinet underside, a small bathroom or a pooja niche.

Our T5 and T8 fittings have PVC bodies: light to lift onto a ceiling, easy to clean, and free of the rust that eats painted metal battens in damp kitchens and in the salty air near the coast. A PVC body is still an indoor body; it is not a substitute for a sealed outdoor fitting.

Our catalogue lists watts and MRPs but not the length of each fitting or its lumens, so check both on the carton. For choosing a tube for a bedroom or kitchen, see which tube light is best for home.

Changing over from an old fluorescent tube light

An old fluorescent tube light has three parts that can fail: the tube, the choke (ballast) and the starter. A copper choke also wastes power of its own, so an old 40W tube drew about 50W in all. An integrated LED fitting replaces the whole lot.

Old fluorescent fitting vs integrated LED tube fitting

Diagram: old tube light wired via choke, tube and starter; LED tube fitting with built-in driver on phase and neutral

Drawn by us, simplified. Our integrated 6W and T5 fittings need only the switched phase and neutral; take the old choke and starter out of the circuit completely.

To change over: switch off the MCB, take down the old fitting with its choke and starter, and connect the new fitting’s terminals to the same switched phase and neutral. Do not leave the old choke wired in to “use up” the old body; it does nothing for an LED fitting except waste power and add a point of failure.

Two practical points on the old fitting. The new body may not line up with the old screw holes, so carry a drill and plugs. And an old fluorescent tube contains a small amount of mercury: do not break it or throw it in household waste; hand it in with e-waste, wrapped so it cannot shatter on the way.

Units per month on a shop’s or office’s hours

Tube fittings in shops and offices run for long days, so this is where the change from fluorescent pays. At 10 hours a day for 30 days, one fitting uses:

One fitting at 10 hours a day: units per month

Old 40W tube + choke, ~50W15 units
T8 40W LED (1060)12 units
T5 20W LED (1059)6 units
T5 12W LED (1058)3.6 units
6W fitting (1051)1.8 units

Calculated as watts × hours × 30 ÷ 1,000. The old fitting is taken at about 50W including its copper choke. Bars to scale.

An office with 20 old tube lights on 10 hours a day used about 300 units a month on them. Twenty T5 20W fittings use 120 units, if the T5 20W gives enough light for the space; where it does not, the T8 40W uses 240. Check lumens on the carton to decide. Our electricity bill guide converts units to rupees.

Which fitting for which space

  • 6W (1051): inside a wardrobe, under kitchen cabinets, a small toilet, a pooja niche or a display shelf.
  • T5 12W (1058): a small bedroom, a kitchen wall, a bathroom, a passage or a balcony under a roof.
  • T5 20W (1059): the general light for bedrooms, living rooms, offices and shop shelves.
  • T8 40W (1060): shop floors, offices, classrooms, clinics, workshops and halls with long working hours.

Tube fittings spread light along their length, so they light a wall and a long counter more evenly than a lamp at one point; our LED bulb vs tube light guide compares the two. For a space with a false ceiling, recessed panels usually replace tubes altogether; see our LED panel range. For lighting a shop as a whole, see LED lights for shop.

A T8 40W in a 10 × 10 ft bedroom is far more light than the room needs and makes glare. In homes, the T5 20W is usually the largest fitting a room wants.

Mounting and wiring

Our tube fittings are surface fittings: the body screws to the wall or ceiling, and the supply connects to the fitting’s terminal block. The usual position is high on the long wall, facing across the room, or on the ceiling over a counter.

  • Switched phase to the L terminal, through the light switch on the board.
  • Neutral to the N terminal.
  • Bring the wires out of the point behind the fitting, so nothing runs loose on the wall.
  • On a long run of fittings in a shop, loop from fitting to fitting only if the terminals are made for it; otherwise use a junction box.

Our switch board wiring diagram shows the switch side. If a fitting flickers or glows faintly when off, see why LED lights flicker and LED glowing when switched off.

Turn the MCB off and test the wires dead before taking down an old fitting. A switch wired in the neutral can leave the old fitting live with the switch off.

Box quantities and values for dealers and contractors

Tube fittings move in larger quantities than lamps: an office floor, a school or a shop fit-out can need dozens. We sell in full boxes only. At MRP, a full box is:

  • 1051, 6W, 10 per box: ₹1,600
  • 1058, T5 12W, 10: ₹1,800
  • 1059, T5 20W, 40: ₹8,000
  • 1060, T8 40W, 40: ₹24,000

For a contractor, the T5 20W box of 40 covers a typical office floor or a small school wing. Send the fitting count per code and we will quote dealer or project rates. Every LED code and MRP is in our LED light price list, and the product page is LED tube fittings and bullet LED.

Mistakes to avoid

  • Leaving the old choke in: it wastes power and can damage the LED driver; take it out.
  • Mixing colours on one floor: fittings of different colour temperatures side by side look patched; check the colour on each carton.
  • Buying by watts alone: two fittings of the same watts can differ in lumens; read the carton. See lumens vs watts.
  • Outdoors in the rain: these are indoor fittings; outside, use a sealed fitting with a printed IP rating, on a 30 mA RCCB.
  • Over-lighting a home room: the T8 40W belongs in shops and offices.

The rest of our LED range

Tube fittings sit alongside our other LED products. For a short, slim fitting with its own shape, see our Bullet LED 9W–22W on the bullet LED page. For lamps that push into a holder, from 9W at ₹70 to the Sumo 50W, see our LED bulb range. For false ceilings, our panel lights run from 8W to 22W.

Everything is made at our works in Mumbai and carries the same printed MRPs code by code, so a dealer can quote a whole floor’s lighting from one catalogue. Our LED light manufacturer in India page has the overview, including street and flood lights.
